On the path to building courage, confidence, and character, Girl Scouts develop skills that prepare them to chase their dreams and make a lasting change. Girls develop these skills through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, which encourages girls to learn by doing. The Girl Scout Leadership Experience is built on the foundation of four program pillars of STEM, the outdoors, life skills, and entrepreneurship. Learn more about them below!
1. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)
Through Girl Scout STEM programs girls can take on some of our world’s biggest challenges and explore ideas that could lead her to an engaging career. Our STEM badges and events provide girls with opportunities to learn skills like how to build robots or design their own app. Even for girls whose interests lies outside the STEM fields, participating in STEM education will help her become a better problem-solver and critical thinker which is important to every field.
2. Outdoors
One of the best parts about being a Girl Scout is getting outside and forming a lifelong appreciation for nature. Girl Scouts are able to explore the outdoors through camping, badges, day trips to local trails, and so much more. Through the outdoor programs girls can develop leadership skills, overcome challenges, and become team players.
3. Life Skills
Every Girl Scout program teach girls important life skills ranging from money management to public speaking. Through Girl Scouts, girls learn about healthy living, community service, and become global citizens. These skills help girls get into college, find internships, and eventually succeed in the workforce.
4. Entrepreneurship
Girl Scouts teaches girls how to run their own businesses, set goals for themselves, and manage their money through entrepreneurship opportunities like the Girl Scout Cookie Program. When girls join the largest girl-led business in the world, they gain experience in everything from digital marketing to sales techniques, setting them up for an amazing future!
