I believe in the power of G.I.RL. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™. That means, I believe in the strength of the largest Girl-led movement in the world and the impact this leadership program has on young women! Here’s why you should consider encouraging your daughter to become a G.I.R.L.:
I want her to be a Go-getter
Kindergarten is a new adventure for your little girl! When she joins Girl Scouts, the first thing she will do is to make friends! Some girls in her troop could already be her friend, but some may go to a different school, some may look different from her, and some may wear glasses. She’ll have her own tribe to try new things, get outdoors and even go on trips! Together, they can achieve so much!
I want her to be an Innovator
What sets Girl Scouts apart from other youth organizations? We are girl-led, meaning that the girls get to help decide which badges to earn, how to spend their Girl Scout Cookie Program proceeds, and which activities to attend. While most of a girl’s life is coed, our one-of-a-kind leadership program fosters collaboration instead of competition between female peers, developing young ground breakers and trailblazers!
I want her to a Risk-taker
Our mission is to build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. As Girl Scout Daisies, one thing they could choose to learn about is STEM by going on a Citizen Scientist journey. This journey allows them to participate in hands-on challenges and practice the scientific method, all while working together to design and implement a Take Action project that can improve their community! Girls team up to understand and address the roots of a problem, develop a plan, and put that plan into action. All of this as a kindergartner!
I want her to be a Leader
Did you know that 50% of female business leaders AND 76% of female U.S. Senators were Girl Scouts? Because a Girl Scout troop is an inclusive, all-female environment, your kindergartener will feel empowered to begin taking on simple leadership roles like having a speaking part in an awards ceremony or being given a different helper job to do at the meetings. Girl Scouts is for every girl, whether they are athletes, social butterflies, or bookworms. There are badges, patches, activities and journeys that meet all her interests!
And of course, we can’t forget why you should consider being a part of her Girl Scout journey! Girl Scouts stands apart from other activities and programs because we encourage and value parent involvement. All of those great qualities you want her to be and those meaningful experiences you want her to have – you can play a leading role that helps shape her Girl scout adventure. 94% of Girl Scout volunteers say that they’ve made new friends while volunteering with us. The timing couldn’t be more perfect than when she starts kindergarten so you both can make new friends, but keep the old.
