How Girl Scouts are Making Dreams a Reality

Every G.I.R.L. has big dreams for their future – this may include going to college and earning a degree. Unfortunately, college can seem out of sight of the realm of possibility for young women who are looking at all the tuition, fees, and cost of supplies that goes along with it. A degree is a big investment and depending on a one’s financial situation, it may not seem worth it.

Here at Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines we believe that a G.I.R.L.’s financial situation shouldn’t keep her from achieving her dreams. We believe in these girls to succeed, and we want to invest in them and their future. To help these young women achieve great heights, we would like to present the Gladys Marion Scholarship.

The Gladys Marion Scholarship will fund an annual scholarship of beginning in 2018. It will be awarded to a Girl Scout within the Council who has demonstrated significant leadership by earning their Girl Scout Gold Award or equivalent participation in Girl Scout-NC Coastal Pines leadership programs.

The scholarship is made possible by a lifetime member of Girl Scouts who made an investment in the future of girls through a gift now, and a gift from her estate after her lifetime.

“I too am a recipient of Girl Scouting’s highest award. I am amazed and inspired by the leadership projects today’s girls take on while working on the Gold Award. I wanted to do something that would recognize their significant leadership and make a meaningful difference to them as they become an adult Girl Scout,” said the donor.

As a Girl Scout alumna living in the southeastern part of our council, it is the donor’s wish to have first consideration for this scholarship going to high school seniors residing in Brunswick, New Hanover, and Pender Counties. “I wanted to do something that might encourage older girls in my area to stay in Girl Scouting and “Go for The Gold”,” she remarked.

Scholarships are truly special opportunities that provide encouragement to G.I.R.L.s that their dreams are within reach. For more information about the Gladys Marion Scholarship and how to apply, please visit https://gsnccp.org/GirlScoutScholarships
