Media Girlz is a year-long program that gives girls from across our council the chance to be included in various media opportunities and to practice their public speaking skills. It’s the perfect way to let all of the courage, confidence, and character that you have built as a Girl Scout shine!
Media Girlz is open to rising Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors (grades 4-12 as of Fall 2018). Girls wishing to apply for the Media Girlz Team must have a 2018- 2019 Girl Scout membership prior to attending the casting call in May. Thirty girls will be chosen from their application to attend the Media Girlz Casting Call on Saturday, May 12th, which is mandatory to be considered for the team.
Here are the top 3 reasons that some of our 2017 Media Girlz loved being on the team!
1. New Experiences
“My favorite part of being a part of the Media Girlz Team was getting to expand my horizon by trying new things. I had many new opportunities to think, write and speak about my surroundings and experiences. One opportunity I particularly cherished was the opportunity to be on WRAL. I got to speak about cookie season and trying to reach 1 million cookie boxes for operation cookie drop. Without a script, I really had to rely on skills Media Girlz helped me develop.” -Lauryn T., Girl Scout Cadette
2. Sharing Girl Scout stories with others
“My favorite media opportunity was my very first assignment, where I was asked to share a recent community service project. I was delighted I got the chance to speak about the dresses I made out of pillowcases for a service project called Dress a Girl Around the World; which is an awesome project that aims to end the sex trafficking of young girls and women. I absolutely adore fashion and helping others in need, so I loved making dresses for such a great cause! I am so glad that I had the opportunity and platform to share a service project that meant so much to me with others.” -Caraline M., Girl Scout Senior
3. Media Opportunities
“My favorite part about Media Girlz is the media opportunities you get. I have been on WRAL and other television stations thanks to Media Girlz. It’s so much fun preparing and practicing for an interview with my sister. I’ve gotten so many amazing opportunities and can’t wait till the 2018-2019 Media Girlz season.” -Lexi T., Girl Scout Junior
