5 Ways to Make Summer Camp Affordable

March 21, 2016

We all love  going to camp every summer, but sometimes the cost of camp can be hard for a family to cover. There are a few different ways that our Council can help to get a girl to camp, and a few that she and her family can do as well.

1. Get your Early Bird Discount! Save $25 on your camp registration fees simply by registering early! March 31st is the last day to take advantage of our Early Bird pricing. After that, you’ll need to pay full price.

2. Apply for a Campership! A what? Scholarships + Camp = Camperships. We have financial assistance available for any currently register Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines member to apply to our summer camp programming. To apply for financial aid, first register for camp, pay the $75 deposit, and then submit the form. Applications are due on April 1st. Each girl may apply for financial aid for one session, up to $200.

3. Use that Cookie Dough! Cookie Dough earned during the Girl Scout Cookie Sale program may be applied to resident camp sessions, special summer events, trading posts, day camps, and Council sponsored events. The easiest way to apply your Cookie Dough towards these activities is to choose the Camp option on the Superstar Destinations Survey.

4. Work for it! Girls, you can take ownership of your camp experience by helping to contribute to your fees. With your parents’ permission, you can talk with your family, friends, and neighbors to see if there is anything you can help them with to earn some money. Some ideas include walking your neighbor’s dog after school, babysitting for your aunt, or helping a friend’s family clean up their yard.

5. Ask for camp as a gift! When you are making your wish list for birthdays and holidays, add camp to that list. While that toy or game is fun for a few months, your memories for camp will last a lifetime.

We believe camp is for all girls, which is why our team is committed to helping your girl experience the wonders and magic of a summer camp experience. Have questions? Contact us at summercamp@nccoastalpines.org. We can’t wait to see you this summer, it’s going to be a blast!

‘Tis the Season to Dream of the Summer Sun

December 16, 2015

Summer Fun Guide

Keli Diewald, Camp Program and Outdoor Education Executive

As we welcome the holiday season buying last minute gifts and gathering with friends and family, summer can feel so far away.  But believe it or not, we have been busy planning for the summer season here at Girl Scouts – NC Coastal Pines.  And we’re so excited about our 2016 summer camp and outdoor programs, we can hardly wait for the warmer days ahead!

With so many great sessions – from camping in tree houses and learning to surf and sail to horse back riding and archery and hiking the Appalachian trail – it’s hard to pick our favorite. Whether your girl is a at resident camp pro or will be packing up for her first ever week away from home, Girl Scout camp offers a variety of experiences she is sure to enjoy!

And that’s why our Camp Team is so eager to share our 2016 Summer Fun Guide – now available online! Registration for camp will open February 3. We think it will get you and your girl excited for summer as well. Here’s a sampling of our camp sessions:

CAMP GRAHAM

  • Paddles Up! In this session older girls will get to experience standup paddle boarding on the lake and take an overnight adventure to the beach. (grades 9-12)
  • Girls will make Magical Memories during this new 2-week session at camp and enjoy an offsite, weekend adventure. (grades 4-5)

CAMP HARDEE

  • Kick off the summer with Outdoor Explorers. This half week session allows new or young campers to explore camp, go on nature hikes, play games and create GORP – good ol’ raisins & peanuts. (grades 2-3)
  • Bring the family and enjoy the weekend at Stars and Stripes Family Camp. Experience time on the water and round out the weekend with a special Fourth of July cookout.

CAMP MARY ATKINSON

  • A Week at Hogwarts is sure to be a treat for girls as they take on “House challenges” and have daily adventures. (grades 2-3)
  • Girls will follow the clues in It’s Your Quest as they explore camp, make new friends and wind down the summer. (grades 4-5)

DAY CAMP

  • If your girl isn’t quite ready for overnight camp, day camp can be a great option.  We offer several sessions around the council; perhaps you’ll see one being offered in your neighborhood. (grades 1-8)

Are your dreaming of summer now? Download our summer camp certificate to give to the Girl Scout in your life this holiday season! We can’t wait to see you around the camp fire! Let the adventures begin.

What camp session is your girl dreaming of this winter!?
