There are so many reasons to be a high school Girl Scout! Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors have many unique opportunities available to them where they can continue to build their leadership skills and explore their passions. Girl Scouts provides them with a safe and supportive space to learn about themselves before they take the world by storm after high school graduation- and not to mention, makes an awesome addition to college applications!
Check out 5 of our favorite opportunities for older Girl Scouts below!
1.Highest Awards
The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest award that a Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador can earn. Girls must identify an issue that is important to them, and take action to make a lasting impact on that issue. An added bonus of being a Gold Award Girl Scout is being eligible for some great scholarships. Learn more about getting started here and get inspired by meeting some of our 2019 Gold Award Girl Scouts.
2. Girl Board Member
Girl board members lead the way as a member of our council’s board of directors. They commit to actively participating in all board meetings (about 6 a year) and girl board projects, allowing them to develop their leadership and make an impact by helping shape the direction and goals of our council. Applications are now open for next year!
3. Counselor in Training (CIT) Program
Do you love camp and the great outdoors? Each summer, we have special CIT camp sessions where girls can learn the ropes of being a camp counselor while having their own awesome summer camp experience. Keep an eye out for our 2020 Summer Fun Guide later this month to see which sessions are available this summer!
4. Program Events
We have so many awesome program events each year for older Girl Scouts that help them to learn basic life skills and introduce them to new things. Some examples include college readiness events, car care programs, STEM and career exploration opportunities, and so much more. Girl Scouts can also become Program Aides where they can help lead events for younger girls as well! Check out our Activities page for upcoming events.
5. Travel Opportunities
In addition to troop travel, girls can also participate Girl Scout destinations where they can see and learn new things and make new friends as they travel with Girl Scouts from across the country. From a kayaking trip in California to exploring the waterfalls and castles of Croatia, there is something for every go-getter and each Girl Scout is sure to make memories to last a lifetime.
