This year, Girl Scouts across our council collected enough donations to give 105,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to military personnel- that’s over 1.1 million since the program began in 2005! Operation Cookie Drop is a council-wide service project that delivers the sweet taste of home to deployed military men and women.
Operation Cookie Drop events took place during the month of May at the U.S. Marine installation Cherry Point in Havelock, the USO of NC Jacksonville Center, NCPacks4Patriots in Ayden, USO of North Carolina at RDU Center, U.S. Army installation Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro.
Girl Scouts that participated in the drops had the opportunity to learn more about different branches of the military and what they do while showing their appreciation and gratitude. Mission, accomplished!
Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point
Around 40 Girl Scouts gathered at Cherry Point to deliver 2,000 cases of Girl Scout Cookies! Afterwards, they had the chance to tour the Aircraft Rescue Firefighters Unit and even got to hold the water hose!
USO of NC Jacksonville Center
Next stop, Jacksonville! 30 Girl Scouts headed out to deliver 2,000 cases of Girl Scout Cookies. The girls learned about the USO while enjoying milk and cookies with a presentation from Cathy Healey, who is the spouse of CMDR Steve Healey. Healey is a Girl Scout alum and a mother of a Girl Scout, and she spoke to the girls about the importance of leadership and how much the Operation Cookie Drop donations mean to the military.
NCPacks4Patriots
After delivering 2,400 cases of Girl Scout Cookies to the NCPacks4Patriots office in Ayden, the Girl Scouts learned more about the nonprofit organization, which formed with the mission to support troops and their families by providing care and comfort items and expressions of appreciation for their service and sacrifices.
USO of NC at Raleigh-Durham Airport
Next up, Raleigh! Girl Scouts adventured to the USO to deliver 500 cases of Girl Scout Cookies, learn about the military, and be interviewed for the news!
Fort Bragg and the Fisher House
Around 2,000 cases of Girl Scout Cookies were delivered to Fort Bragg and 20 to the Fisher House. After the delivery, the Girl Scouts learned about the mission of the Fisher House, a “home away from home” for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers.
Seymour Johnson Air Force Base
Last up– Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Jacksonville! After delivering 2,000 cases of cookies, the Girl Scouts spent the day visiting the base K9’s, touring the Fire Department, and getting an up-close look at a KC-135 refueling aircraft.
