Have you heard? Girl Scouts are always looking for an excuse to get outside, and we are partnering with the with the National Association of State Park Directors (NASPD) for a Girl Scouts Love State Parks weekend! Thousands of Girl Scouts across the United States will be taking part for some fun in the sun and new adventures in the great outdoors!
The weekend festivities will take place July 13-14th in Wake County, and Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to camp overnight or join us on Sunday. The overnight adventure includes camping in cabins at Umstead State Park, s’mores, and a night hike. Sunday’s adventure for everyone will take place at Falls Lake where Girl Scouts will canoe, learn about the ecosystem at the lake, and complete a service project benefiting the environment.
According to the Girl Scout Research Institute (GSRI), 71 percent of girl members ages 8–14 tried their first outdoor activity through the organization and half would not have had access to outdoor activities and programming if not for Girl Scouts. The Girl Scouts Love State Parks initiative will allow girls to learn new skills and discover more about the world around them while bonding with fellow Girl Scouts from across the council. Girl Scouts will work towards earning their State Park’s Junior Rangers badges which require them to learn more about state parks and why they are preserved while learning essential leadership skills.
So what are you waiting for, Girl Scout? Join in on this awesome opportunity to get outside with us at Falls Lake! Register here by Friday, June 28th! This is open to Girl Scout troops or individuals and they must be accompanied by an outdoor certified adult. To learn more, contact Kendall Bauer!
