We did it! With the completion of another successful Girl Scout Cookie Program, we could not be more excited to announce that we reached our goal of raising enough to donate 1 million boxes of Girl Scout Cookies since starting Operation Cookie Drop!
Operation Cookie Drop is a council-wide service project that delivers the sweet taste of home to deployed military men and women. This year, girls worked extra hard with a goal of reaching 93,000 boxes to donate and surpassed it with over 95,000, contributing to over 1,000,000 total boxes donated since the initiative began 13 years ago! Operation Cookie Drop means so much to our military troops because it brings the comfort of home and shows them that their country is grateful for their service, and girls went above and beyond this year to hit the 1 million boxes mark.
Girls collected donations for Operation Cookie Drop throughout the 2018 Girl Scout Cookie Program during cookie booth sales and Walkabout Week, where girls sold cookies individually and in teams in local neighborhoods. Some girls even channeled their inner Go-getter and Risk-taker by raising awareness about Operation Cookie Drop at community meetings and gatherings. This dedication and hard work through creative fundraising tactics show that girls can accomplish anything that they set their mind to! The Girl Scout Cookie Program has the purpose of teaching girls important life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and financial literacy, and Operation Cookie Drop allows the girls to put these skills into action while supporting an awesome cause.
In May, cookie drops will take place at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, Cherry Point in Havelock, Fort Bragg near Fayetteville, Seymour Johnson Airforce Base in Goldsboro, and more, to be delivered to military personnel. In addition to boxes of cookies, many Girl Scout troops have written letters to the troops to thank them for their service and to let them know that their country is thinking of them. Girls that attend Operation Cookie Drop Events have the incredible opportunity to see first-hand the impact of their hard work during the cookie program. One of the best parts of being a Girl Scout is making a difference for others, and Operation Cookie Drop is one of the sweetest ways to do so—and reaching the goal of 1 million boxes donated makes it even sweeter!
