Teen Camporee 2018: A Myth-stical Getaway

Teen Camporee

Girl Scouts love to let their imaginations run wild, and what better way to do so than by joining in on our council’s longest running girl-led event? This year, Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors gathered at Camp Mu-Sha-Ni for Teen Camporee in October for a weekend filled with outdoor adventures and loads of fun. At this awesome event, girls camped out and enjoyed traditional outdoor activities with their Girl Scout troops while making new friends and embracing the unknown. This year’s theme? Greek Mythology!

Girl Scouts discovered their inner goddesses with exciting and innovative activities like decorating Pandora’s Boxes and creating mythological themed bookmarks. They also played Greek-themed games like a gladiator contest with foam swords and a Hermes-inspired relay race. Additionally, Girl Scouts participated in traditional camp activities like campfire, archery, kayaking, skits, and cooking outside. The girls had an incredible weekend letting their imaginations run wild while spending time in the outdoors and soaking up the great fall weather.

Events like Teen Camporee highlight the Girl Scout commitment to providing girls with outdoor experiences that help them to build courage, confidence, and character while learning about the world around them. At camp, girls of ALL AGES– and the Girl Scout volunteers there with them– can let loose, be themselves, and escape the responsibilities of  daily life like school and extra-curricular activities. The best part? It’s all in the great outdoors.

It is for this reason that Girl Scouts are more likely than non-Girl Scouts to have practiced environmental stewardship and to have had a camping experience, according to the Girl Scout Research Institute. When girls get outside and explore nature, they realize passions and skills from a different perspective. At Teen Camporee, girls did just that while making friends and memories to last a lifetime.
