Write a Letter for Operation Cookie Drop!

Girl Scout 4

In 2018 we are celebrating 13 amazing years of Operation Cookie Drop, a community service project that brings a sweet taste of home to military men and women deployed far from home. In our first year we collected enough donations to purchase 45,000 boxes for our military. Over the last 12 years we have donated almost 900,000 boxes of cookies to our military! Our mission this year? Reach ONE MILLION boxes donated by the close of the 2018 Cookie Program!

We deliver cookies to Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, Cherry Point in Havelock, Fort Bragg near Fayetteville, NCPacks4Patriots in Ayden, Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, and both the USO of NC at RDU airport and in Jacksonville. Check out our council website for photos and videos of these deliveries!

NCPacks4Patriots is a nonprofit organization formed with the mission to support troops and their family members by providing care and comfort items and expressions of appreciation for their service and sacrifices. They greatly appreciate all the cookie donations, letters to the troops, and service our Girl Scouts provide. Barbara Whitehead, their Director, said, “Nothing says home more than the taste of Girl Scout cookies. We all grew up waiting for Girl Scout Cookie time, and everyone has a favorite cookie. To have that taste of home, that walk down memory lane to a happy time, means the world to our troops. But most of all, our troops know that they are not forgotten, and their country still appreciates their service and thinks of them.”

Barbara says the cookies are important, but what really touches our military when they are so far from home is a letter or card from our Girl Scouts that are included in the care packages. These simple cards express appreciation for what they are sacrificing, reminds them how proud we are of the work they are doing, and reminds them that they are remembered even when they are so far from home.

Want to help? Plan a letter writing campaign at one of your troop meetings between now and April 15th. Drop off the letters and cards at any of our council shops, give them to your Membership Director to deliver, or mail them to the Raleigh Service Center at 6901 Pinecrest Road, Raleigh, NC 27613 (Attn: Product Sales).
