Sea Turtles, Lighthouses, Exploring North Carolina, oh my!

Council Patch Program

By Kim Henry, Program Director

Are you looking for some fun activities to supplement for your meetings?  Or maybe your troop has special interests or hobbies they would like to explore?  Well look no further than our Council Own Patch program here at Girl Scouts – NC Coastal Pines.

If your girls are interested in animals, check out our Sea Turtle patch. Many troops even take this adventure on the road and visit a rehabilitation turtle hospital at the coast. Or maybe you’re planning to attend the Reptile and Amphibian day at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in March? You can earn several steps toward the Amphibian and Reptiles patch while you are there.

Looking to learn more about our state? We have a few great patches for you. Explore downtown Raleigh as your troop work towards the Know Your State Capital patch.  Whether you are close to the coast or your troop loves to travel, you and you girls can learn about some really cool lighthouses as they earn the NC Lighthouses patch.

Are you and your girls feeling extra adventurous? Be a true Tarheel and travel across the state while earning the Exploring North Carolina patch. This patch program is designed to increase girls’ knowledge of our state, its history, and resources. It offers a variety of fun activities and travel opportunities!

Watch for our Patch of the Month in the weekly e-news and on our website!  From September through May, we will highlight a patch of the month.  It’s a great way to introduce your troop to the Council Own Patch program.  Keep an eye out as we plan to add more patches this year.

Do you have an idea for a patch?  We would love to hear from you!  Contact the program department for the guidelines to create a Council Own patch. Your troop’s patch may be highlighted as a future Patch of the Month this year!
