The First Lady’s call to action – Volunteer Today

Michelle_Obama_2013_official_portraitDid you know that since 1917, every First Lady has served as Girl Scouts of the USA’s Honorary National President? It’s a tradition that began with First Lady Edith B. Wilson and dates back almost 100 years. Since then, each successive First Lady has served in this post.

First Lady Michelle Obama knows the important role played by Girl Scout volunteers and is encouraging adults to support girls and volunteer in a new video released by Girl Scouts of the USA. The video coincides with the launch of the organization’s new “I can’t wait to…” national campaign to increase recruitment of girl members and adult volunteers.

“Girl Scout volunteers can be moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, or anyone else looking to help girls in their community fulfill their boundless promise,” said First Lady Michelle Obama. “As a Girl Scout volunteer, you can show girls that anything is possible, and you can inspire them to dream bigger and go further than they ever even imagined.”

Girl Scouts – NC Coastal Pines is dedicated to getting the word out to adults who care about girls in their communities and want to make a difference. Girl Scout volunteers help girls make friends, have new adventures, and do great things. Volunteers help girls become whoever they want to be, which just may be a future First Lady or even the first female President.

Help us spread the word. Share this video with family and friends and encourage them to become a Girl Scout volunteer!
