Falling in February each year, Black History Month is a month-long celebration of the achievements and contributions of the Black community. This year, the Black History Month Theme is “African Americans and the Arts”, paying tribute to the rich cultural impacts and unique perspectives of African Americans in art.
At Girl Scouts, Black History Month is a time for Girl Scouts to discover, connect, and take action as it relates to learning more about African American history, culture and notable contributions. Through two unique patch programs, Girl Scouts have the chance to learn about historical Black figures, tour African-American memorials and museums, and think about how Black culture relates to their own Girl Scout experiences. Read below to learn more about our Black History Month patch programs, and how you can get involved this Black History Month!

Throughout February, Girl Scouts are encouraged to participate in the Black History Month patch activities to learn more about African-Americans in history and earn their very own Black History Month patch!
