Engineering Design Challenge 2023: Sparking Innovation

In October, Girl Scouts participated in a day of learning and innovation at our 2023 Engineering Design Challenge.

Taking place at the beautiful MetLife campus in Cary, participants started their day by hearing from a panel of women professionals who spoke about their career journeys and experiences in STEM. Girl Scouts also had the opportunity to listen to a special guest speaker who discussed using social media to create their brand.

During workshop sessions, MetLife volunteers guided Girl Scouts through a series of engineering design challenge workshops. Workshop challenges included designing a life vest to help a pretend dog float, creating a structure that can move in the wind, and making an instrument to pick up an object. Participants collaboratively and innovatively designed and tested their engineering projects while learning about the design thinking process. In recognition of their day of learning, Girl Scouts earned their Think Like an Engineer Award!

This programmatic opportunity was possible because of the support of MetLife Foundation and our partnership with MetLife Multicultural Professionals Network – Cary. And thanks to Shelley Lappert and the numerous MetLife volunteers for hosting our 2023 Engineering Design Challenge and supporting Girl Scouting in STEM. Sending special thanks to all MetLife volunteers and special presenters who contributed to an impactful day of learning.
