On Saturday April 1, 2023, over 50 Girl Scouts from Daisies to Cadettes visited Camp Mary Atkinson for the Voter Girl! event. Throughout the day, Girl Scouts were given the opportunity to meet and work with a dozen volunteers from the Wake County League of Women Voters and 7 elected officials. Through the various activities at the event, Girl Scouts worked towards earning their Democracy badge. The badge encourages Girl Scouts to learn about local and state government, as well as the three branches of the federal government.

While at the event, Girl Scouts had a blast learning about all about the different levels of government through live speakers, crafts, and hands-on activities. They were especially excited to have the opportunity to ask questions at Q&A sessions with a North Carolina Court of Appeals Judge and local elected officials. During their lunch break, Girl Scouts heard from Congresswoman Deborah Ross on her career in government.

Voter Girl! 2023 was a day full of learning, discovery and most of all, fun! Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines wants to extend a huge thanks to every Girl Scout, volunteer, speaker and facilitator for making the event such a success.
