We are currently accepting applications for our 2021-2022 Media Girlz team! This team is made up of 15 Girl Scout Juniors through Ambassadors who love sharing their Girl Scout experiences with the world. Our Media Girlz team gets hands-on opportunities to guide the direction of our council communications, including our social media posts, blogs, and video content. Media Girlz receive special training in public speaking and interview techniques so that they can put their best foot forward representing our council on the radio, television news, and council events! Their mission? Spreading the word of just how AWESOME Girl Scouts is so that other girls can join on the fun, too!

The 2021-22 Media Girlz term will last from September to May. Girl Scouts are eligible if they are entering grades 4-12 in fall of 2021. First, girls must apply through our online application by Monday, May 31. The application is easy– simply fill out the questionnaire telling us why you love Girl Scouts and attach a picture. A short video is strongly recommended as well so we can see your Girl Scout sparkle! We will then choose 30 Girl Scouts to audition with us at our virtual casting call. Each girl will sign up for one 10 minute audition time slot during the week of June 21-25, 2021 from 4-5pm. Girl Scouts must have a 2021-22 membership prior to their audition.

We will then choose 15 Girl Scouts to be part of the team based on their speaking capabilities, knowledge of the Girl Scout program, and enthusiasm! We also want our team to be a great representation of our 41 counties. Our Media Girlz must attend one of our virtual training on August 24, 25, or 26 from 4-5pm. 

After the Media Girlz training in August, Girl Scouts on our Media Girlz team receive monthly newsletters with ways they can get involved. They also have the opportunity to pitch their own ideas and channel their creativity skills to create videos they would like to share. Our Media Girlz are the first Girl Scouts we contact when looking for girls to do an interview during cookie season, or when we need a Girl Scout to speak at an event!

Being a Media Girl is a great way for girls to step outside their comfort zone, gain real-world experience, and become comfortable with public speaking (whether they are in elementary school or their last year of high school!). Girl Scouts can add this experience to their resume, college application, Girl Scout scholarship applications, and more!
