Hard Work Pays Off: My Week in Hollywood!

November 18, 2014

By: Juliana M., Girl Scout Senior – Troop #49

Thanks to Girl Scouts-NC Coastal Pines and my amazing parents I spent a week in Los Angeles this summer at the Hollywood Dreamin’ Girl Scouts’ destinations program. This was a program for Girl Scouts interested in filmmaking. In one week we put together a short film AND made friends for a lifetime!

Day 1 Arrival:

I flew by myself for the first time from RDU to LAX. I was feeling many different emotions. I felt nervous, yet so excited. After a short flight across the country, I landed in LAX. I got off the plane and navigated myself around pretty easily. Soon after I landed I found my instructors. They were so welcoming and incredibly nice! After a couple of hours all the girls had arrived. We all got along so well and I could tell this was going to be the best week of my life!

Day 2 Studio Tour:

Girl Scouts NC Coastal Pines Girl Scout takes a movie studio tourWe woke up bright and early with an exciting day ahead – a tour of Warner Brothers Studio! We couldn’t contain our excitement as we piled into two cars and headed out. This was my favorite day because not only did we visit the sets of Ellen DeGeneres, The Fosters, F.R.I.E.N.D.S and more. I also got to know the girls a lot better. We had so much fun visiting and taking picture on the sets!

Day 3/4/5 Write it, Film it, and Edit it:

Girl Scouts - NC Coastal Pines Girl Scout filming a sceneThese three days were busy, busy, busy! We had to write our script, shop for the props, and film in just two days. We all worked together so well and worked so hard! The filming day was jam-packed. We met the amazing actors, set up the props and started to film. Eleven hours later we were finally finished! After a nice sleep, Day 5 came around and we had to edit the whole day. It took such a long time, but it paid of in the end. Later that night we got together with popcorn and premiered our two movies. They were both so amazing and we were so proud. Hard work pays off.

Day 6 Saying Goodbye:

This day had to be the hardest day of them all. We had become so close and saying goodbye was difficult! We all left LAX at different times so we got up bright and early to say goodbye. I made so many amazing friends this trip and plan on visiting some of them soon. Thanks, Girl Scouts – NC Coastal Pines for making my Hollywood dream happen.
