Over the past three months, the Girl Scouts of Troop #1911 have embarked on an incredible series of journeys that culminated in impactful Take Action projects for each level. What these young leaders accomplished was nothing short of inspiring.
At the heart of their journey lies the Haws Run Community Building, the beloved meeting place for Troop #1911. Nestled under an old oak tree stands a prayer bench, overshadowed by a simple cross—a humble sanctuary that has brought peace to many in troubled times. When the Girl Scouts saw this space, they knew they could make it even more special.

For their Take Action projects, the Girl Scouts decided to unite their efforts to give the prayer bench and its surroundings a heartfelt makeover. The Daisies took the lead in gathering donations of flowers, potting soil, flower pots, and mulch. They even hand-painted rocks to add a personal touch to the area. Their creativity and enthusiasm were truly infectious!
The Brownies, always ready to lend a helping hand, assembled dozens of care packages and goodie bags for the homeless and less fortunate. In addition to their charitable work, they also supported the Daisies by cleaning up, spreading mulch, and placing landscaping stones around the prayer bench.
The Juniors, with their nature-based journey in mind, constructed several beautiful cedar birdhouses and hung them in the old oak tree, creating a welcoming environment for local wildlife.

And then there was the centerpiece: the bench itself. This old wrought iron bench with wooden slats was in dire need of restoration. A few of the older Girl Scouts, under the guidance of a dedicated troop volunteer, meticulously disassembled, stripped, refinished, and reassembled the bench. The transformation was remarkable—a testament to their hard work and dedication.

The Haws Run Community Building was founded with the vision of being a place for the community, by the community. It’s a venue for fall festivals, weddings, reunions, and, of course, Girl Scout meetings. The Girl Scouts of Troop #1911 saw their Take Action projects as an opportunity to give back to this cherished space. They demonstrated their journey toward becoming women of courage, confidence, and character.
Through their efforts, Troop #1911 has not only enhanced a community space but also showcased the true spirit of Girl Scouting. They have shown that with big dreams and big hearts, anything is possible. Thank you, Troop #1911, for making a lasting impact on your community! 🌟🌼🛠️
