Girl Scouts has something to offer for every girl at every stage of life, and as a girl-led organization, we encourage girls to choose their activities, badges, and patches based on their interests and what they would like to accomplish as a Girl Scout. We also encourage girls to set goals for themselves and to plan out how they will reach them, and making a bucket list is an awesome way to do so! Studies have show that writing down your goals makes you significantly more likely to actually achieve them, and we know that with a new year coming Girl Scouts will have plenty of plans for themselves! That’s why we think girls should create a Girl Scout Bucket List by writing down all of the things they would like to do with Girl Scouts. To help you get started we’ve created a list of recommendations!

Bucket List Items to Get Started on Now

• Participate in the Fall Product and the Cookie Programs – The Fall Product and Girl Scout Cookie Programs are a cornerstone of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. These programs allow girls to learn lifelong skills such as finical responsibility and entrepreneurship all while building self-confidence.

• Visit a Local Farm – Girl Scouts love animals and the outdoors, and North Carolina agriculture brings them together in a unique way. Across our state, and council footprint, there are many local farms that offer socially distant tours and other activities. Find a farm near you here!

• Learn CPR and First Aid – Beginning with the Daisy Safety Pin, Girl Scouts of all ages are encouraged to learn how to take care of themselves and others through their knowledge of basic first aid. Many Girl Scouts take on the additional challenge of earning their certifications in CPR and First Aid to ensure that they are always prepared to lend a helping hand.

• Make a Time Capsule – Preserving history is always important, but today’s girl is living through an unprecedented time. Create a time capsule with a note to your future self, along with some of your favorite things or photos from 2020. Then lock it up to open 10, 20, or 25 years from now!

• Earn Your Highest Awards – The Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards are given to girls who identify a problem in their community and complete a service project to make a lasting change. These Girl Scouts demonstrate a dedication to making the world a better place. Get started on your project today!

Bucket List Items to Start Planning For

There are amazing places for Girl Scouts to visit all across the state, country, and world and these trips might be on hold for a while due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there is no better time then now to start saving and planning.

• Visit the Birthplace of Founder Juliette Gordon Low – Planning to reopen in Spring 2021, the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace in Savannah, GA offers a variety of experiences for individual girls or entire troops to connect with the life of our founder and the earliest Girl Scouts. • Spend the Summer at One of our Resident Camps – Our council has three amazing resident camps for girls to spend their summers gaining independence and having fun. From climbing the alpine tower at Camp Mary Atkinson, to sleeping amongst the trees at Camp Graham, to dolphin-watching on the shores of Camp Hardee, we have something for every girl to enjoy.

• Visit the Girl Scout Museum and Archives in New York – Located in New York City and ran by the National Historic Preservation Society, the Girl Scout Museum and Archives documents over 100 years of Girl Scout history. A troop favorite at the museum is being able to watch The Golden Eagle, a silent promotional film on Girl Scouts from 1918.

• Take a Trip to Camp Andree Clark – Camp Andree Clark is only national GSUSA Girl Scout camp, and it is open to Girl Scout troops of any council with their home council’s permission for both summer and winter camping. Learn more about planning your trip here!

• Travel to One of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS) Centers– WAGGS has 5 centers worldwide, ranging from Switzerland to India. The closest center to our council is Our Cabana in Mexico where girls can learn about Mexico’s rich history and culture all while completing much needed service projects. Learn more!
