Women’s History Month 2022

At Girl Scouts, we believe in the power of the girl, and all of the ways in which they can make the world a better place. Each year our council and Girl Scouts around the world celebrate Women’s History Month in honor of the amazing women who have sparked the light for change throughout history. Whether being advocates for topics that matter to them, following a passion, or achieving unimaginable accomplishments, we are honored to recognize all women in history and are proud to say that many of them were once Girl Scouts. Patrice Andrews

Patrice Andrews is the current Chief of Police at the Durham Police Department! Patrice has worked as a policewoman for 25 years and was promoted to Chief of Police in Morrisville in 2016 before moving to the Durham Police Department. Patrice was once a Girl Scout and has used her skills to become a woman that all Girl Scouts now look up to. Over the years Chief Andrews has involved herself in many Girl Scout activities including speaking to Girl Scouts about her story and mentoring at Girl Scout events. She is resilient, strong, and has all of the qualities of a true Girl Scout!

Taylor Swift

Singer and songwriter Taylor Swift is known around the world as one of the most influential music artists of her time! While growing up, Taylor was a Girl Scout in Pennsylvania and has continued to show support to Girl Scouts. Through her love for music, Taylor has been recognized for winning multiple awards such as Grammy Album of the Year and Billboard’s Top Music Artist. Taylor inspires girls and women everywhere to follow their dreams and never give up!

Venus Williams

American professional tennis player Venus Williams is considered one of the greatest tennis players of all time. Throughout her career, Venus has been the winner of 7 Grand Slam single titles, 16 Grand Slam double titles, and 4 Olympic gold medals. The best part is, Venus was a Girl Scout! She was even given the chance to speak at the 100th Girl Scout birthday celebration in 2011. Venus’ hard work and determination allowed her to follow her passions and accomplish the unimaginable.

Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens is an American actress and singer known for her startup role in the High School Musical movies and over 50 other movie roles! In 2009, Vanessa pledged her Girl Scout honor after receiving a badge to become an honorary Girl Scout at a special screening of her movie Bandslam. Throughout her career, Vanessa has also released two singing albums, served as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance, and starred in live televised musical productions. Vanessa shows Girl Scouts that no goal is too big to achieve and that perseverance can help you accomplish anything!
