Setting Goals and Achieving Dreams: New Troop Leader SeriesFebruary 10, 2014
By Tiffany Haywood, Daisy Troop Leader
As part of our plan to help prepare our girls for Girl Scouts – NC Coastal Pines’ Cookie Sale we decided to plan an activity around goal setting to help each girl achieve dreams they have an individual as well as a troop.
To start off, the leaders talked about goals. We explained that a goal is setting a target for what you want to do within a certain time frame. For our troop, we are looking to achieve our goals by the end of the Cookie Sale (March 2, 2014).
After the girls had a strong grasp on how to define a goal, we then asked each Girl Scout what their personal package goals were for the Cookie Sale. As Troop Leaders, we were already aware of where their parents felt they could sell during the cookie season. We were eager to find out if the girls felt the same way.
Once we heard all of the girls’ goals we started to discuss how their individual goals could also help the entire troop succeed. We explained how every box a girl sells helps meet the troop goal. It was amazing to watch as each of our Daisies realized that they could help each other by reaching their set goals.
What better than a fun activity to help the girls visualize individual and troop goals! We created a dream board showing everything they wanted to do with the earrings from the cookie sale. We are proud to say we have some very ambitious yet realistic girls with amazing goals ahead of them. Some of the ideas on the dream boards included visiting Build-a-Bear, the Zoo, the Aquarium and so much more!
In addition to our dream board activity, we also made each girl a really cool Cookie Sale Info Lanyards. Each lanyard includes a price sheet for the favorite varieties and the NEW Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Shortbread cookies as well as a photo cookie chart.
I have no doubt our Girl Scouts will be able to achieve anything they set their hearts to.
How do you teach your Girl Scouts to set goals and achieve them? Do you lead by example of perhaps a story or activity? How do you celebrate achieving goals?
