What is World Thinking Day, you ask? Every year on February 22nd, Girl Scouts around the world celebrate international friendships, diversity, goodwill, and acceptance. Girls participate in activities and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries.
Girl Scouts of the USA ‘s theme for World Thinking Day 2013 is girls worldwide say “together we can save children’s lives” and is based on reducing child mortality rates around the globe. This special Girl Scout day is celebrated through member participation, the more girls and adults who participate the stronger our message!
Alright, so what’s the deal with Different Shoe Day ? A day full of fun activities to encourage girls (and adults) to demonstrate their ability to see life in someone else’s shoes. Girl Scouts – NC Coastal Pines is encouraging girls and adult to wear two different shoes to school, to work, or to play on this special day.
This symbolic gesture may cause an onlooker to ask why you are wearing two different shoes. This opens an opportunity to communicate the importance of valuing people of all cultures, all ethnic groups, all races, and all abilities—no matter what shoes you wear, we’re all Girl Scout sisters, so join the worldwide celebration!
Participating in any of the World Thinking Day activities can do so much to spread positive feelings of goodwill and acceptance. We can make a difference in our neighborhood and our community. It’s truly a “step” in the right direction!
When you show your pride on this special day, we’ll show off your Girl Scout graffiti skills to the world! Don’t forget to pick up your World Thinking Day and Different Shoe Day patches while in the shop! Is Different Shoe Day an annual tradition in your troop?
